About The Position

The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a Utility Maintenance Technician Trainee for its Utility Department. This role is dynamic and fast-paced, involving team collaboration to maintain sewer lift stations, water and wastewater facilities, wells, and step tanks. The department provides training in safety, mechanical and electrical systems, CDL, and a FWPCOA collection certificate. The ideal candidate will embody St. Johns County's core values of compassion, innovation, and trustworthiness.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent recognized certification.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida class B “CDL” driver’s license with “N” (tanker) endorsement within six (6) months from date of hire.
  • Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills to serve others.
  • Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
  • Must be able to operate a computer.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of mechanical and electrical systems at treatment plants and pump stations.
  • Assists in installing, maintaining and repairing pumps and mechanical equipment at plants and pump stations.
  • Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Responds to after-hours emergencies.
  • Completes work orders as assigned.
  • Assists in the repair of broken water and sewer lines.
  • Assists in maintaining pump station ground.
  • Maintains a full-time presence on the job.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
