About The Position

Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator in Ironwood, Michigan. The company has protected underground utility infrastructure since 2001 and works nationwide on utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects. This role involves locating underground utilities in compliance with 811 dig laws, accurately documenting and marking findings, and participating in an on-call rotation. The position offers independence in an assigned work area, with operational support and modern locating technology. The work requires operating independently, communicating effectively, and working in all weather conditions.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of utility locating experience is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locating practices.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to pass a drug screen.
• Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
• Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
• Consistent attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to work independently and without supervision.
• Effective communication and a team-oriented approach.
• Value accuracy and safety.

Responsibilities

• Locate underground utilities in compliance with all 811 dig laws.
• Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
• Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
• Mark utilities accurately using paint and flags.
• Document work through a mobile app, including photos and reports.
• Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
• Participate in an on-call rotation.
• Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
• Communicate with excavators, property owners, and team members.
• Work overtime and flexible schedules as needed.
• Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
