Utility Locator (Vincennes, IN)
About The Position
Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator to locate underground utilities and protect utility infrastructure. The company has operated since 2001 and performs nationwide utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects. This is a full-time employee position serving the Vincennes, Indiana area. Locators work independently in an assigned territory, without close supervision, while following 811 requirements and maintaining accurate, safe work practices. The role requires working in all weather conditions, communicating with excavators, property owners, and team members, maintaining company equipment and vehicles, and participating in an on-call rotation. Overtime, flexible schedules, and travel are part of the work expectations. Pay is $20.00–$30.00 per hour, and employees are paid door to door.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of utility locating experience.
- Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locate practices.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass a drug screen.
- Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
- Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
- Consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities
- Locate underground utilities in compliance with 811 dig laws.
- Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
- Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
- Mark utilities accurately with paint and flags.
- Document work in a mobile app, including photos and reports.
- Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
- Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
- Communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members.
- Work independently in an assigned work area and follow safe, accurate locating practices.
