Utility Locator (Superior, WI)
About The Position
Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator to protect underground utility infrastructure through utility locating, inspection, and related project work. The company has operated since 2001 and works nationwide on critical utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects. This is a full-time employee position based in Superior, Wisconsin. The role offers independence in an assigned work area and requires working independently, including in all weather conditions, while communicating effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members. The position includes participation in an on-call rotation and may involve travel and overtime.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of utility locating experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locating practices.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass a drug screen.
- Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
- Consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently and without supervision.
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions and travel.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team.

- Experience using advanced locating technology and multiple locating methods.
Responsibilities
- Locate underground utilities in compliance with applicable 811 dig laws.
- Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
- Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
- Mark utilities accurately using paint and flags.
- Document work in a mobile app, including photos and reports.
- Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
- Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
- Communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members.
- Work in all weather conditions and maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
