Utility Locator (Tomahawk, WI)
About The Position
Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator to locate underground utilities and help protect underground infrastructure. The company has operated since 2001 and performs utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects nationwide. This is a full-time employee position in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. The role calls for an independent, self-motivated professional who can work in all weather conditions, maintain company equipment and vehicles, and communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members. The position includes an on-call rotation and requires willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules. Pay is listed as $18.00–$30.00 per hour, with pay from door to door.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of utility locating experience is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locate practices.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass a drug screen.
- Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
- Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
- Consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members.
Responsibilities
- Locate underground utilities in compliance with all 811 dig laws.
- Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
- Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
- Mark utilities accurately using paint and flags.
- Document work in a mobile app, including photos and reports.
- Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
- Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
