About The Position

Northern Lights Locating and Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator in Monticello, Indiana. The company has protected underground utility infrastructure since 2001 and performs nationwide utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects. This professional role is suited to a self-motivated locator who can work independently and take responsibility for an assigned territory. The position requires working in all weather conditions, maintaining company equipment and vehicles, and communicating effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members. Employees participate in an on-call rotation and must be willing to travel, work overtime, and accommodate flexible schedules.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of utility locating experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locating practices.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to pass a drug screen.
• Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
• Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
• Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
• Consistent attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to work independently without supervision.
• Accuracy, safety, and effective communication.

Responsibilities

• Locate underground utilities in compliance with applicable 811 dig laws.
• Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
• Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
• Mark utilities accurately with paint and flags.
• Document work in a mobile app, including photos and reports.
• Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
• Participate in an on-call rotation.
• Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
• Communicate with excavators, property owners, and team members.
• Travel for work as needed.
