About The Position

USIC is hiring a Utility Locator in Austin, Texas. This is an on-site, daytime, full-time field position focused on preventing damage to underground infrastructure. Locators work independently outdoors using a company-provided vehicle, phone, and equipment, and use ticket and claims management systems to provide clear and complete mark-out services. No prior locating experience is required; experienced locators are also encouraged to apply. Training and opportunities for advancement are provided. The role involves a 48-hour turnaround on many locates, so employees generally work the day after holidays and some weekends as needed. Overtime, weekend shifts, and on-call shifts—including nights and weekends—may be required depending on business needs.

Requirements

Able and willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Proficiency with technology.
Available to work overtime, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed.
Able to pass a drug screen; this is a safety-sensitive position.
Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
Able to work in a confined space, walk, bend, and lift up to 75 lbs.
Able to distinguish between colors used to identify wiring and mark underground utilities.
Able to read, understand, and reference locate tickets, maps, and prints.
Able to communicate clearly with colleagues, customers, contractors, and homeowners.

Responsibilities

Safely, correctly, and efficiently locate underground telecommunications, electric power, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer utilities.
Thoroughly search designated areas for underground utilities.
Accurately mark utility locations.
Complete required documentation and photograph each locate.
