You will provide advanced coordination and support for LLNL projects by performing utility locating operations using state-of-the-art equipment to identify and map hidden substructures and buried utilities, as well as conducting ground penetrating radar (GPR) scans of concrete structures. This position is in the Infrastructure Engineering and Operations Department and may require work at Site 300 in Tracy, California. This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

Requirements

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Associate degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Advanced experience in utility locating and identifying, underground utilities such as gas, water and electrical, using advanced methods beyond standard single-line mark outs and concrete scanning using ground penetrating radar.
  • Significant experience with GIS utility mapping, including using geographic information systems to identify, interpret, update, and verify underground utility locations, alignments, and asset records to support accurate field locating and documentation.
  • High-level construction knowledge of how utilities are installed both inside and outside of buildings.
  • Advanced knowledge of safety policies, procedures, and USA North Codes and regulations, with the ability to apply them effectively while performing utility locating work safely and in compliance with requirements.
  • Significant experience compiling field documentation, digital pictures, and drawings to keep clear and accurate records of utility locations and work performed.
  • Effective written, verbal, feedback, and presentation skills necessary to interact tactfully and effectively with all levels of management, engineers, designers, and crafts personnel.
  • Ability to participate in specific on-the-job training related to underground utility locating and concrete scanning.
  • Experience using computers, scanners, digital cameras, and effectively using software such as Excel, Access, Word, AutoCAD, and Photoshop.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced technical coordination and support to LLNL projects by performing locating jobs to identify and map hidden substructures and buried utilities.
  • Perform complex technical locates where regular decision making is needed to establish or modify guidelines, techniques, and procedures.
  • Coordinate with personnel on projects requiring underground utility locating/concrete scanning services, and anticipate and reconcile support problems, including technical factors affecting critical milestones.
  • Provide routine status updates and reports to supervisor and customer/requestor.
  • Ensure that all locating tasks are performed in compliance with safety standards and policies as well and National Utility Locator Contractor Association (NULCA) standards and procedures related to underground line locating.
  • Provide technical underground locating knowledge to project teams and maintenance staff and work with personnel inside and outside LLNL.
  • Give locating demonstrations when needed and communicate to all levels of management within LLNL and other Department of Energy (DOE) facilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
