About The Position

GTel is a leading utility locating company that helps clients manage their assets safely, accurately, and efficiently. As a fully integrated asset management and energy services company, GTel assists clients in meeting their asset management needs and reducing utility risk in the communities they serve. The Damage Prevention Technician/Utility Locator role is a full-time position based in London, ON, focusing on dedicated locates. The primary responsibility is to locate underground utilities such as power lines, water lines, sewer lines, steam lines, and communication lines within a specified geographic area. This involves using company-provided equipment to locate, mark (with spray paint and flags), and electronically record these utilities. A paid training program is provided for this role.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently and manage workload to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficient use of a computer.
  • Ability to problem-solve and demonstrate good judgment.
  • Ability to physically walk in and out of ditches, on uneven surfaces, lifting and loading equipment up to 9kg (20 lbs) in and out of the vehicle several times per day, carry/swing 20lbs of equipment while walking.
  • Ability to work in all types of weather.
  • Valid ‘G’ class Driver’s License.
  • Clean three (3) year Driver’s Abstract.
  • Full G License and a clean driver’s abstract.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Locate, mark (with spray paint and flags), and electronically record underground utilities.
  • Adhere to GTel company policies and procedures.
  • Act as a Safety Champion, ensuring safety rules and policies are followed.
  • Consult with contractors, developers, and builders regarding underground utility locations.
  • Provide excellent customer service to the public, contractors, and utility customers.
  • Read utility mapping and engineer drawings.
  • Prepare reports and documentation verifying marked utilities.
  • Mark, measure, and electronically draw underground utilities.
  • Safeguard company equipment and vehicle.
  • Be adaptable to utility work such as Sewer Safety Inspections, Third Party Observations, and Damage Investigations.
