About The Position

JLL is seeking a Utilities Maintenance Worker (GMW) to perform a variety of routine and semi-skilled tasks involving general maintenance of an assigned client property, equipment, and grounds. This entry-level service-maintenance position plays a vital role in supporting the facility operations at Rush University Medical Center, contributing directly to the safety, functionality, and compliance of the facility. The role involves making routine tours of client property, conducting inspections of fire and life safety equipment, flushing point-of-use fixtures as part of the water management program, and assisting with the continuous cleaning of vents and sprinkler heads. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop skills in facility maintenance while working in a healthcare environment where attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols will directly impact patient care and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to 2-4 years of facility maintenance and/or rounding experience.
  • Ability to perform manual labor indoors and outdoors for extended periods of time.
  • Physical ability to work in small, cramped areas, climb ladders or steps, and stand, kneel, or walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to move debris, dirt, furniture, or other materials as needed.
  • Must pass a background investigation and drug screening due to required access to all secured buildings.
  • Knowledge of the use and care of commonly used equipment and tools for basic and semi-skilled general maintenance repair tasks.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, demonstrating courtesy with patients, staff, fellow employees, and the general public.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and/or schematics and other work diagrams with aid of section supervisory staff or skilled tradesman.
  • Understanding of OSHA safety procedures and JLL policies.
  • Ability to learn and perform assigned tasks quickly and correctly through on-the-job training and educational opportunities.
  • Experience working in a healthcare or medical center environment.
  • Familiarity with water management systems and fire and life safety equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Make routine tours of client property, inspecting fire safety equipment, checking for obstructions to equipment, documenting findings, and removing obstructions.
  • Manually flush water at point-of-use fixtures per water management procedures, checking water filters and performing other utility and water management work under direct supervision.
  • Assist maintenance technicians with the continuous cleaning of all vents and sprinkler heads in assigned areas.
  • Inspect work-related conditions to ensure compliance with prescribed operating and safety standards, including distinguishing whether lights are off or bulbs need replacement.
  • Use equipment and tools such as iPads, water temperature thermometers, and other tools commonly used to support facilities and related equipment, while documenting time on work orders/requests for tasks completed.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, other employees, and patients to perform tasks, coordinate work, and accumulate supplies, following verbal and written instructions.
  • Clean work areas and equipment such as breakrooms, work sites, shops, and personal tools, while learning and practicing safety regulations and precautions.
