About The Position

The Utilities Technician is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of all plant utility systems. This position ensures continuous operation of ammonia refrigeration systems, steam generation equipment, boilers, compressed air systems, and supporting utility equipment while maintaining compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements. The Utilities Technician plays a critical role in minimizing downtime by performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting equipment failures, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 7+ years of industrial maintenance experience.
  • 7+ years experience operating industrial ammonia refrigeration systems.
  • 7+ years experience maintaining boilers and steam systems.
  • Experience maintaining compressed air systems.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and P&IDs.
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting knowledge.
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems.
  • Shift flexibility is required
  • Knowledge working in Microsoft Office Suite and use of company web-based programs
  • Will work around noise, dust, variable temperatures.
  • Regular bending, stooping, lifting up to 60lbs, climbing stairs, ladders, and work from elevated platforms.
  • Position must be able to communicate with all levels of employees, vendors, customers and visitors.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical degree or industrial maintenance certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain industrial ammonia refrigeration systems.
  • Monitor refrigeration equipment performance and operating conditions.
  • Respond to ammonia system alarms and emergency situations.
  • Support Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements.
  • Operate high-pressure steam boilers safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor boiler water chemistry.
  • Troubleshoot steam system issues.
  • Assist with annual boiler inspections and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain rotary screw air compressors and associated equipment.
  • Monitor compressor efficiency and air quality.
  • Troubleshoot pressure and capacity issues.
  • Maintain accurate operating logs and maintenance records.
  • Works to minimize downtime and improve department efficiency.
  • Assist in orders and controls parts inventory and schedules work orders
  • Adhere to and comply with Good Manufacturing Practices as outlined in Employee Handbook.
  • Adhere to and comply with quality production and Food Safety.
  • All other duties as assigned.
