About The Position

The Utilities Foreman is responsible for on-site management of all JHL craft personnel. Through daily coordination with the Superintendent, this position will track, prioritize, and assign tasks in order to facilitate the needs of the project schedule. He/she will oversee the project in the field to maintain layout control as well as JHL’s safety and quality programs. The Utilities Foreman will be a key player in training and instructing JHL craft for efficient and quality work in addition to the development of skills.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years experience operating equipment, reading & understanding plans/drawings, & directing crew members for tasks in a safe and productive manner.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience laying utilities including – Storm, water, and sanitary utilities.
  • Ability to properly manage a crew regarding preplanning, production, safety, and maintaining a healthy work environment for all employees.
  • Ability to attend weekly subcontractor meetings and represent JHL in a professional manner while maintaining the integrity of the project.
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with the site superintendent and all subcontractors on site.
  • Ability to perform proper preplanning and communication with superintendent/project manager to ensure you have all materials & items in place to complete the task at hand on a daily basis.
  • Ability to notify the superintendents/project manager of any unforeseen conditions and potential changes in design/construction.
  • Ability to ensure proper locates are up to date & notify the superintendent/project manager a minimum 5 days in advance if new locates are needed.
  • Ability to perform daily coordination with the site superintendent regarding 3rd party testing/inspections.
  • A general understanding of the governing municipalities specifications/details, testing, and inspection requirements.
  • Ability to maintain a safe work environment – Ensure all employees have and are utilizing proper PPE, shoring, traffic control, confined space equipment, & all project specific safety items.
  • Reading & understanding project drawings, survey staking/layout, ability to read survey staking, use of transit/pipe lasers, shooting grade using grade rods, & the skillful ability to operate excavators, loaders, skidsteers, and other project related equipment.
  • Must have the ability to speak, write and comprehend English language.
  • Must have the ability to hear clearly.
  • Must have the ability to stoop, kneel, bend and reach.
  • Must have dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse.
  • Must have clear vision or wear contacts & glasses if vision is obscured.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred
  • Certifications in OSHA 30 hour, rigging and signals, trench/shoring safety, confined space, and first aid (JHL will train all personnel for updated certifications).

  • Utilize and submit daily reports, production completed and material installed, crew member time cards, safety documentation/THAs (Task hazard analysis), and deliveries/procurement using Procore software.
