About The Position

The UT Operator is responsible for operating and assisting in the functions of UT testing of pipe material in accordance with plant policies and procedures. This role ensures a safe and compliant operation during their shift, including daily operation of in-line UT inspection equipment, reporting of non-conformances, and problem-solving quality issues on the line. A secondary function includes performing daily prove-up on rejected material and maintaining current knowledge of all relevant SeAH SOPs.

Requirements

  • Must have a Level 1 or Level 2 UT certification.
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Good arithmetic skills are required.
  • Manual dexterity required for operating machinery, hand tools and handheld technical devices.
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing processes, procedures, and welding operation.
  • Ability to stand on feet for a minimum of 8 hours.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
  • The ability to lift 25/50 pounds regularly.
  • The ability to respond quickly to sounds.
  • The ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
  • The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations.
  • The ability to safely climb ladders while carrying 40 pounds.
  • Ability to see 20-20 when corrected.
  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
  • Training in Ultra Sonics and Quality.
  • Mechanical aptitude desired
  • 2 years’ Quality Control experience is preferred.
  • General proficiency of Microsoft Excel, Word and Databases, Track-Pro System (is preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Daily operation of in-line UT inspection equipment.
  • Reporting of all Non-conformances and any potential quality issues.
  • Helping problem solve any quality issues on line.
  • Perform all applicable inspection functions to the requirements of ASNT SNT-TC-1A and API.
  • Separate pipe that needs further evaluation (prove-up) ensuring material is properly segregated.
  • Operation Monitoring - Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Review work orders and specifications to determine materials needed to be processed.
  • Detection of defects which are inherent to various steel making and pipe manufacturing processes.
  • Conduct inspection to ensure quality, detect discontinuities using ultrasonic equipment.
  • Accurate process of paperwork and test results.
  • Determine if pipe does/does not meet SeAH specifications.
  • Report any discrepancies in reports to QC Auditor / Mill Supervisor.
  • Ensure proper procedures and paperwork is being used and utilized.
  • Other duties as assigned.
