About The Position

Ushers are part of the Guest Services Department at the National Polo Center (NPC). In this role, they serve as the first point of contact for guests and members attending Sunday polo games. Ushers must always greet guests and members in a friendly and welcoming manner and present themselves professionally and courteously to ensure a pleasant experience for all spectators. Ushers are responsible for checking tickets and assisting spectators with seating, providing event information, and maintaining a safe and orderly environment during polo matches. Additionally, they participate in half time divot stomp setup, promotions, pre-game stadium setup, and post-game stadium clean up. This position is a seasonal, part-time position and requires Sunday availability throughout the NPC polo season typically from the last weekend in December to the first weekend in May.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to resolve issues quickly and effectively and the judgement to escalate to management as needed.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment, maintaining professionalism and organization under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by the event schedule. Sunday availability is required.
  • Able to stand, walk, and climb stairs for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in an outdoor environment in varying weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. (e.g., event materials, promotional items, supplies).

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in an usher, customer service, or event operations role is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet attendees and direct them to their assigned seats.
  • Assist with any seating issues, such as helping attendees find appropriate spaces or handling seating requests.
  • Provide event programs, brochures, and other relevant materials to spectators.
  • Answer general questions about the event and venue and assist with lost and found items.
  • Maintain an orderly and respectful environment by ensuring that guests remain seated or in designated areas.
  • Monitor crowd behavior and respond to any disturbances or problems, notifying event security if necessary.
  • Scan all tickets prior to entry into the stadium, general admission, or tailgate areas, and wristband attendee accordingly.
  • Ensure all guests are in the correct area according to their wristband color and type.
  • Ensure the stadium and tailgate area are presentable prior to the game every week by wiping down all chairs, both in the stadium and general admission.
  • Ensure the correct number of chairs are placed in each designated box for guests.
  • Clean and maintain tables and plaques within each box to ensure a tidy environment.
  • Sweep and tidy up the boxes and stadium stairs, ensuring all areas are clean and welcoming.
  • Dispose of any trash around the venue.
  • Set up the trophy table in preparation for awards ceremonies.
  • Set up the divot stomp area for halftime, ensuring the space is ready for attendees.
  • Prepare the Asado area.
  • Set up tailgate check-in stations and ensure all necessary materials are in place.
  • Take down and properly store any equipment or materials set up before the game, including chairs, tables, and signage.
  • Dispose of any remaining trash or debris in the stadium areas, ensuring the venue is clean and well-maintained after attendees have departed.
