About The Position

We're hiring an Usher Captain to lead and manage volunteer usher teams of up to 22 during live events. This person will oversee guest seating and floor operations, support the volunteer team, and serve as the primary liaison between ushers, Front of House Operations, and HSG program management.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • English-speaking required
  • Strong leadership, communication, and guest service skills
  • Able to read and understand seating charts and floor plans
  • Professional and composed in busy, customer-facing environments
  • Able to stand, walk, and navigate stairs, ramps, and inclines for extended periods
  • Available for an event-based schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Must pass a client-required background check

Nice To Haves

  • Performing arts, theater, convention center, or similar venue experience
  • Experience leading 10 or more people in a guest-facing environment
  • Familiarity with ADA accommodations and accessible seating
  • Experience training or orienting volunteers or seasonal employees
  • Bilingual English/Spanish or another language is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise up to 22 volunteer ushers
  • Conduct pre-event briefings and communicate assignments, seating maps, and event instructions
  • Arrive 30-60 minutes before doors open to assist with program preparation and portal setup
  • Assign usher posts and ensure the team is ready before doors open
  • Oversee guest seating and ensure guests are directed to the correct sections
  • Resolve seating conflicts, ticketing discrepancies, and guest concerns
  • Enforce venue policies, including late seating, food and beverage, and photography guidelines
  • Coordinate ADA and accessible seating assistance
  • Monitor usher performance and reposition team members as needed
  • Serve as the primary communication point between ushers and venue/event leadership
  • Maintain radio communication with the House Manager
  • Understand and follow venue emergency and evacuation procedures
  • Document and report incidents or escalated guest concerns
