About The Position

This recruitment is for multiple, limited duration, part-time positions located in Salem, OR (4190 Aumsville Hwy SE) and is not represented by a union. This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants and may be used to fill future vacancies. The Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) oversees the development of professional standards and the delivery of quality training for law enforcement officers, corrections officers, parole and probation officers, firefighters, telecommunicators, and emergency medical dispatchers. DPSST is also the regulatory agency that enforces employment and training standards for the above listed public safety disciplines and licenses proprietary security managers, security contractors and officers, polygraph examiners, and private investigators. Requirements

  • Three (3) years of professional level experience related to the instructional assignment and/or based on ORS 181.610 through 181.690.
  • Experience typically in the area of public safety (law enforcement officers, adult and youth corrections officers, parole and probation officers, fire service professionals, telecommunicators, and emergency medical dispatchers).
  • Experience must have included delivering structured training sessions or on-the-job training.
  • Successful candidates will be subject to a computerized criminal history check.

  • Recent (within the last 3 years) experience working in public safety (law enforcement, corrections, parole and probation).

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate student learning using confrontational simulation (ConSim) scenarios.
  • Debrief students regarding various legal and use of force matters, tactical decision making, communication skills, and other topics.
  • Perform administrative tasks related to scenario training (preparing equipment and the training environment, delivering safety briefings, etc.).
  • Run virtual simulation (MILO) training.
  • Instruct use of force topics in a classroom setting.
  • Work with basic students in other venues (e.g. firearms, defensive tactics, tactical skills, classroom instruction, etc.) outside of the use of force program.
  • Provide the highest quality training possible while maintaining and enforcing safety protocols.
  • Influence the lives of Oregon’s future law enforcement officers and leaders.
