About The Position

This recruitment is for multiple, limited duration, part-time positions located in Salem, OR. The Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) oversees the development of professional standards and the delivery of quality training for various public safety disciplines. DPSST is also a regulatory agency that enforces employment and training standards and licenses proprietary security professionals. Requirements

  • Three (3) years of professional level experience related to the instructional assignment and/or based on ORS 181.610 through 181.690, typically in the area of public safety (law enforcement officers, adult and youth corrections officers, parole and probation officers, fire service professionals, telecommunicators, and emergency medical dispatchers).
  • Experience must have included delivering structured training sessions or on-the-job training.
  • For those interested in being considered for the SFST position, must be an Oregon Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Instructor currently in good standing and/or be certified as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).
  • Successful candidates will be subject to a computerized criminal history check.

  • Certification as a Standardized Field Sobriety Test Instructor and/or Drug Recognition Expert at time of application.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitating pre-designed coursework and/or activities.
  • Creating and adapting personal delivery methods considering the context of public safety and the training curriculum.
  • Coaching and evaluating course participants regarding their achievement of learning outcomes.
  • Preparing, utilizing, and maintaining training equipment.
  • Ensuring safety practices and protocols are followed.
