About The Position

This position is an integral part of the urgent care team and requires the ability to work effectively with Providers and other ancillary staff to deliver high quality, timely, compassionate care. Under direct supervision of the provider, will be responsible for patient assessment, providing assistance with patient procedures, completing in office lab testing, splinting fractures, and educating the patient on their discharge instructions in the urgent care/occupational health setting. This position requires knowledge of specialty and/or primary care symptom management and a variety of medications to be able to assess, plan and deliver timely and appropriate care, especially in emergency situations. This position is responsible for coordinating care and leading other staff team members in the delivery of patient care. The RN is required to have the skills to complete venipuncture’s, pulmonary function testing and administer medications ordered by the provider during the patient visit. The nurse is responsible for communicating to the patient their lab and radiology results when directed by the provider. This position may assist with the coordination and training of new employees ensuring that they have completed the required competency skills and training documentation. The RN may be required to order medical, and pharmacy supplies, and office supplies to manage patient care. They will assure compliance with all the policies/procedures of MyMichigan Health and follow Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations, and all appropriate regulatory agencies. Also, may perform other practice duties (occupational health patient care follow up, keyboarding, filing, telephone, computer and office equipment) as needed. Requirements

  • RN: Registered Nurse
  • A minimum of one year of nursing experience.
  • Nursing experience in an urgent care or Emergency Department setting.
  • BLS: Basic Life Support
  • TEAM ADVANCED: Techniques for Effective Aggression Mgt

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Drug Collector certification within 6 months of hire or transfer.
  • Certified in Breath Alcohol certification within 6 months of hire or transfer.
  • Working knowledge of the organization’s Lawson, Electronic Medical Records, and Practice Management programs preferred or knowledge of similar software.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients and/or family, takes vital signs, obtains/reviews medical, social, surgical and medication history, and allergy information. Prepares patient for examination, performs procedures in accordance with standing orders. Completes in office labs; urinalysis, pregnancy testing, strep screens, EKG’s, TB testing, pulmonary function testing per protocol, and reports results to the provider. Communicates information regarding testing, procedures and follow up care to patient in a clear, concise and professional manner.
  • Accurately completes and documents all patient information in the medical record according to current guidelines.
  • Triages emergency patients, assessing condition and responding clinically as needed to stabilize the patient. In conjunction with the provider, directs other staff in assisting in emergency situations. According to protocol, administers immediate treatment when indicated and notifies physician of patient status.
  • Administers medications as prescribed by provider. Assists provider with patient examination, procedures and splinting.
  • Prepares and cleans the patient area, sets up equipment, cleans and facilitates room set up after a procedure. Disposes of contaminated supplies and sterilizes medical instruments.
