About The Position

The Upper School Science Teacher will be responsible for teaching a daily schedule of a physical science course, which is an integrated course of chemistry and physics. This role involves creating lesson plans and labs based on sound, research-based methods of instruction, with a significant lab component. The teacher will foster a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the developmental needs of adolescent students. Key responsibilities include conducting ongoing assessments, maintaining open communication with parents and students, integrating technology and current lab techniques, and maintaining accurate student records. The position also includes serving as an academic advisor for 8th-grade students and collaborating with faculty and staff, including the 8th-grade faculty team and the Upper School science department.

Requirements

  • 4-year degree in Education with a specialization in science (preferable physical science, chemistry, or physics)
  • Licensed teacher with K-12, 4-9, or 7-12 certification for the state of Ohio with a focus on physical science, chemistry, or physics
  • Two years of teaching experience or field experience.
  • Able to integrate faith and learning
  • Must be comfortable working in a multi-denominational Christian community

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in teaching high school or 8th grade is preferred.
  • Experience working with a learning management system, like Canvas.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a daily schedule of a physical science course (an integrated course of chemistry and physics).
  • Create lesson plans and labs based on sound, research-based methods of instruction.
  • Design and integrate laboratory investigations as a focus of classroom learning.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of adolescent students.
  • Conduct ongoing formal and informal assessments of student achievement.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with parents and students through a variety of means, including face-to-face conversations, email, phone calls and conferences.
  • Integrate technology and current lab techniques to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and current records of student progress, achievement and behavior.
  • Serve as an academic advisor for a group of 8th grade students.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff, including the 8th grade faculty team and the Upper School science department.
