About The Position

Mount Vernon School seeks an innovative and collaborative Upper School Mathematics teacher. The role is part of a forward-thinking faculty that creates real-world, project-based learning experiences and uses inquiry-based teaching and a mastery approach. The teacher will personalize learning, make interdisciplinary connections, and support students’ academic, social, and emotional needs. Availability to sponsor athletic, artistic, or academic teams or clubs is preferred.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education, Mathematics, or a related field.
Background or real-world experience in mathematics content knowledge.
Ability to cultivate respectful and affirming environments.
Cultural proficiency and equity literacy.
Track record of providing high-quality, responsive feedback.
Understanding of competency-based assessment and mastery-based learning.
Knowledge of inquiry-based learning pedagogies, including PBL, VTR, QFT, and DT.
Proficiency in Google Suite and Mac/Apple OS.

Responsibilities

Use mathematics content knowledge to make interdisciplinary and real-world connections.
Co-design curriculum and assessments with the math team.
Maintain comprehensive and accurate records of student performance, progress, and goals using Mount Vernon tools.
Communicate with families, learning coaches, and outside providers.
Participate actively in professional growth opportunities and weekly school, division, and team meetings.
Support division needs through weekly coverage and duties.
Customize and differentiate learning to meet students’ social and emotional needs.
Maintain an organized, inviting, and student-centered learning environment.
Participate in assigned duties, such as grade-level advising, lunch, enrichment, and carpool.
Potentially sponsor athletic, artistic, or academic teams or clubs; this is preferred.
