The Monmouth Vicinage is recruiting students interested in law and justice for its Unpaid Legal Intern Program’s Summer 2027 cohort. This structured, nine-week experience offers the opportunity to work with Superior Court Judges, learn aspects of case processing, and gain practical experience and insight into the judicial process in the Civil, General Equity (Chancery), Criminal, and Family Divisions. The program runs from June 7, 2027, through August 6, 2027. Interns are expected to be onsite for at least ten hours per week and to serve for the full program. Candidates with limited availability may be considered for shortened unpaid opportunities depending on space and operational needs. Preference will be given to candidates available for the entire program. Students must attend an accredited college or university. Completion of one year of law school, or current enrollment as a first-year law student with substantial legal writing experience, is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate is organized and detail-oriented, with excellent communication, interpersonal, legal research, and writing skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel is helpful. Many schools may award course credit for internship work; applicants should check with their school regarding credit for unpaid work. Applicants age 18 or older must agree to a thorough background check, including fingerprinting. The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States. A New Jersey-valid driver's license is required only if operating a vehicle is necessary to perform the position’s essential duties. Physical demands stated for some positions may include climbing, prolonged standing, stretching, bending, reaching, and frequently lifting and carrying 30–50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds; the posting does not specify that these demands apply to this internship.
