This role is within the Implementation of Telecom Services team, which has built one of the largest private MPLS based Networks in North America and provides telecom circuits to large corporations, utilities, and provincial government groups. The student will assist with the design and implementation of these telecom services.

Requirements

  • 2nd or 3rd year Computer Science or Telecommunications student
  • General understanding of networking and telecom systems and services, such as routers and switches used to provide Ethernet WAN’s
  • Solid understanding of the OSI communications model
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Self-starter with exceptional communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and MS Visio
  • Must be enrolled in post-secondary level studies and returning to full-time studies upon completion of the work term (exceptions for graduation requirements)
  • If an international student, must have obtained a proper work permit and a Social Insurance Number (SIN).

Responsibilities

  • Project coordination, device configurations, database support
  • Support the Sales, Engineering, Provisioning and Project Office teams through consultation with external vendors to finalize technical deployment details for the access layer network.
  • Configure telecom circuit performance monitoring parameters and reporting for Cisco and Juniper routers to track utilization, availability, packet loss, latency.
  • Review vendor proposals to ensure all client specifications have been met.
  • Document exceptions and vendor deliverables into the Project Office database.
  • Create deployment topology diagrams for internal and external consumption.
  • Manage Vendor deliverables to meet Project Office timelines.
  • Take part in technical review sessions with the client as required.
  • Maintain and update the Access CMDB (Config Database)
  • Generate regular status reports and other reports as required
