About The Position

This 12-month co-op position is for a University Co-Op Student in the Protection & Control Engineering group, starting in Fall 2026. The group is responsible for the engineering design of protection, control, and metering systems for the transmission grid in Ontario. The selected candidate will be placed into one of three disciplines: Protection, Control, or Metering engineers. This role offers professional development, including an in-depth understanding of the engineering required to protect, control, and meter a transmission grid, and provides prospective engineers registered in EIT a chance to work with professional engineers and gain pre-graduation experience.

  • Must be enrolled in post-secondary level studies and returning to full-time studies upon completion of the work term (exceptions made for students requiring a work term to graduate).
  • Must submit a Personal Risk Assessment from Metropolitan Toronto Police.
  • International students must have a proper work permit and a Social Insurance Number (SIN).

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with projects by designing protection systems by helping with the mark up of drawings, assist with implementing logic diagrams, configuring settings into IEDs, uploading IED information into a cyber-secure system, and processing configurations that have been commissioned by the field.
  • Assisting with projects by designing control systems by helping with the mark up of drawings, creating and issuing configuration files, and point verification scheduling and testing which pre-commissions data points before putting equipment into service.
  • Assisting with the design of metering circuits, creating documentation to be approved by IESO, calculating site specific load adjustments and calculating measurement error correction losses.
  • Handling Cyber Security sensitive information, and communicate with different departments and field staff.
