About The Position

United Readers Mentors support kindergarten-through-fifth-grade students in Southern Nevada by helping improve literacy skills and reading fluency. Using a predetermined curriculum, lesson plans, and guidance from school learning facilitators, mentors lead small-group lessons and activities during reading intervention blocks. The program aims to build foundational reading skills and improve third-grade reading scores while helping students develop resilience and confidence as lifelong learners. Mentors work at an assigned school site during the school day, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., for approximately 28–30 hours per week. The position is part-time, temporary, and grant-funded. The posting lists an anticipated employment period of November 2026 through May 2027, and also states that work is expected from late November 2026 through the end of June 2027, subject to program requirements and available funding. Continued employment beyond the current award period is not guaranteed. Mentors report in person to their designated school daily and may occasionally report to the UWSN office. This role serves as an ambassador for the United Readers Program and United Way of Southern Nevada.
