About The Position

The Unit Secretary provides support to hospital patient-care units by attending nursing stations and performing clerical, reception, and other directed services. The role supports an organized, efficient, and smoothly functioning unit. At Abrazo West Campus, this position contributes to patient care in a 200-bed acute care hospital serving West Valley communities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent GED.
• Basic computer skills and ability to use a phone and fax.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• One year of experience in a hospital setting.
• CPR certification or registration.

Responsibilities

• Maintain patient records.
• Assist with patient admission coordination.
• Transcribe and enter physicians’ orders and patient information accurately and promptly.
• Notify nurses of orders requiring immediate attention and of completed stat, abnormal, and diagnostic test results.
• Screen and deliver phone calls and mail to appropriate individuals.
• Greet and direct patients, visitors, physicians, and employees upon arrival to the department.
• Communicate issues or concerns to the appropriate individual.
• Assess and prioritize a rapidly changing workload and complete work in a timely manner.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
• Perform other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned.
