The Unit Coordinator will collaborate with internal and external resources to provide administrative and operational support to the clinical unit. This individual serves as a central contact to the wider community for customer service, facilitating patient centered care through values of the organization. The Unit Coordinator is a liaison for physicians, nurses, ancillary staff, patients, families and care partners. In a fast paced environment, the incumbent must be successful at working independently while managing the details of highly confidential information critical to the efficient function of the organization.

Requirements

  • Strong customer service and intrapersonal skills required.
  • Competency with Microsoft Windows based software preferred.
  • Prior experience with telephone reception highly preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment is required.
  • Must be willing to adapt well to changing priorities, instant deadlines, and constant interruptions.
  • Requires advanced interpersonal/communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Greets individuals coming to the unit, provide directions, information, responds to needs and requests.
  • Respects and protects the patient’s rights to confidentiality and privacy and discloses information only for professional purposes with collaboration of licensed nurse.
  • Performs service recovery and communicates as a care team to achieve the desired patient outcome.
  • Maintains high standards of service to patients, physicians and other hospital departments.
  • Displays a positive attitude and works to achieve an environment of respect, accountability, teamwork, integrity, and compassion. Does not support or take part in disruptive or negative behavior.
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives.
  • Keep an orderly unit, maintains efficiency on the unit.
  • Orients patients, family members and care partners to the “Welcome Folder” and all of the contents.
  • Prepares compiles and maintains the patient’s medical record on the nursing unit, both paper and paperless charts in compliance with HIMMS Level 7 certification from admission through discharge, utilizing the current I.S. system.
  • Complies with hospital attendance policy and department staffing policy and rotations.
