The Unit Coordinator - Surgical Unit - Ellison 7 position provides administrative support to unit-based and hospital-wide clinicians and staff in an inpatient unit, functioning as the liaison between the patient, visitors, and clinicians. This role is expected to effectively organize priorities, complete tasks on time, and manage confidential patient information. The Unit Coordinator partners with nursing to coordinate the day-to-day patient flow, including communication to key players regarding patient admissions, discharges, and transfers. The role also involves providing outstanding service for every customer interaction. Actual job duties may vary by department. The Unit Coordinator performs clerical and other duties to assist in the general administration of the floor or unit. This includes greeting and interacting with patients, families, visitors, and coworkers professionally, receiving, prioritizing, organizing, and managing information at the central nursing station and throughout the unit. Additionally, the role involves scheduling consultations, tests, procedures, and patient transport to other departments, and entering accurate and timely information into the electronic medical record regarding admissions, discharges, and transfers to facilitate efficient patient flow. The Unit Coordinator also contacts ancillary service departments for equipment, services, and supplies, tracks their status and location, and uses designated processes for identifying and facilitating repairs. In some cases, the Unit Coordinator may assist the manager with payroll duties, staff scheduling, or supervision of unit secretaries. Duties may vary by department, and the employee is expected to perform other duties as assigned and comply with all policies and standards.
