About The Position

Join our Emergency Department team as a Unit Clerk II, where you’ll play a critical role in supporting patient care and ensuring smooth department operations. In this fast-paced environment, you’ll serve as the communication hub between patients, families, clinicians, and external partners—helping deliver timely, compassionate, and coordinated care. This position is located in our Wilmington Hospital, a fully modernized Wilmington Hospital serving ChristianaCare’s distinguished, high-quality health care in the heart of Wilmington. Our Wilmington Emergency Department houses a Level III Trauma Center. The 37 bed Wilmington ED serves patients with medical, cardiac and traumatic emergencies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 2 years of clerical, administrative, or related experience
  • Strong communication, multitasking, and organizational skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Proficiency with computers and electronic health systems (EHR)

Responsibilities

  • Manage incoming and outgoing calls with professionalism and urgency
  • Relay information accurately between patients, nurses, physicians, and external agencies
  • Initiate emergency communications (e.g., overhead trauma alerts, code activations) following established protocols
  • Coordinate with registration, ancillary departments, and care teams to support patient flow
  • Welcome and assist patients and visitors; issue visitor passes in accordance with hospital policy
  • Support quick registration workflows and obtain consent-to-treat documentation
  • Verify and update patient demographics, insurance, and pharmacy information
  • Perform admission, discharge, and transfer (ADT) functions in electronic systems
  • Maintain accurate patient charts and documentation
  • Prepare and distribute records, forms, and physician-requested reports
  • Complete insurance-related documentation, including orthopedic equipment forms
  • Protect patient confidentiality and ensure HIPAA compliance
  • Follow all departmental safety protocols and report concerns promptly
  • Adhere to organizational policies and customer service standards
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new team members
  • Participate in department committees and process improvement initiatives
  • Support administrative follow-ups, including correspondence with outside providers and agencies
