About The Position

International Fire Protection (IFP), an Alabama-based fire suppression company, is seeking qualified applicants for a Union Apprentice position. Sprinkler fitters are pipefitting specialists in the fire protection industry. This is a five-year apprenticeship program in which apprentices work alongside a journeyman sprinkler fitter installing automatic fire protection systems. Apprentices must join Local Union 669 and complete on-the-job training and a five-year correspondence course toward becoming a journeyman sprinkler fitter. The role involves traveling to various work locations and job sites within Alabama as necessary and complying with the union collective bargaining agreement. Benefits are provided through the local union organization. The position is not eligible for sponsorship. Offers are contingent on satisfactory completion of a pre-employment drug screening and background check in accordance with company policy.

Requirements

Be willing to become a member of UA Local Union 669 Sprinkler Fitters.
Be at least 18 years old.
Have a high school diploma or GED.
Have a valid driver's license in accordance with company policy.
Be willing to lift at least 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Be willing to climb ladders, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Be able to work in a fast-paced construction environment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Be willing to pass a post-offer drug test and background check, if applicable.

Strong mechanical background.

Responsibilities

Learn to install, repair, and maintain all types of fixed extinguishing systems, including underground piping.
Install and service other fire protection equipment, such as standpipes, carbon dioxide systems, halon systems, foam systems, and dry chemical systems.
Travel within Alabama to various locations and job sites as necessary.
Comply with the union collective bargaining agreement.
