About The Position

FM seeks an Underwriting Specialist Staff to help ensure policies issued worldwide meet the company’s underwriting intent, regardless of the policy form’s origin. The role works with business units globally and coordinates policy forms and agreements across the organization. It reviews non-company forms—including competitor, broker, and client-drafted forms—for compliance with company requirements and compares external wordings with FM policy forms to identify material differences in coverage, intent, structure, and terminology. The position also maintains a repository of competitor forms and analyses, recommends updates to standard policy forms to support competitiveness and contract certainty, and drafts procedures for implementing revisions. The role supports policy composition and review, including FM Advantage, FM Affiliated, translated or localized, multi-carrier, industry-specific, and specialty wordings. It maintains review guidelines, assists Operations and Division Underwriting Managers with manuscript policy reviews, and helps determine whether proposed policy terms adequately address client loss potentials. The position also develops underwriting guidance and training, supports Policy Review Authority training candidates, collaborates with corporate departments to resolve policy-wording issues, and contributes to Staff Underwriting objectives as directed. The position may be filled at either the Underwriting Specialist Staff or Sr. Underwriting Specialist Staff level, based on the selected candidate’s skills and experience.
