About The Position

Liberty Mutual Canada is seeking a Co-Op student interested in launching their career in Insurance. This role offers the opportunity to develop key skills and build a successful underwriting career at a growing company. Underwriting in the Cyber & Technology space involves analyzing evolving digital risk factors such as data breaches, ransomware, and emerging cyber threats, and making informed decisions on risk. The role also requires sales and marketing skills through interaction with brokers to differentiate cyber and technology products and services. Cyber & Technology Underwriters should possess strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills, acting as decisive problem solvers who use curiosity and research to assess risk in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This position allows for the development of risk selection acumen, insurance knowledge, and negotiation skills, while building relationships with industry brokers.

Requirements

  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Currently pursuing a degree or diploma in Business, Insurance, Risk Management, Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Analytical aptitude for compiling, evaluating and interpreting data.
  • Interest in or knowledge of cybersecurity concepts, emerging technologies, and the evolving digital risk landscape.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Adaptability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to resolve problems and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of cyber and technology renewal policies assigned to you within your department.
  • Interact and negotiate with brokers on sales strategies, policy terms and pricing.
  • Seek out new business opportunities by attending corporate networking events and foster new relationships with multi-tiered brokerages.
  • Handle underwriters' renewal portfolios and strive to achieve target financial metrics in different lines of business.
  • Research Canadian and global businesses across multiple industries to identify risk factors specific to their operations, suppliers, and customers.
  • Analyze financial stability, corporate reputation, cyber security, products liability, and catastrophe exposure, among other factors to assess overall risk.
  • Analyze micro and macro-economic factors and industry trends which may impact businesses in various industries.
  • Make decisions on company risk profiles and provide analysis and recommendations to the underwriting team.
  • Assist in development of risk rating models to balance actuarial loss projections and real-market pricing.
  • Review renewal applications and generate quotes and binders within our underwriting platforms.
  • Review and monitor loss activity for broad industry trends as well as for individual clients.
