About The Position

The Urbana Middle School Student Council Sponsor organizes and facilitates The UMS Student Council members. The UMS Student Council is an organization for students that serves as a forum and decision-making body for student concerns and actions and as a model of democracy in action for the student citizens. The purpose of this organization will be the betterment of student life in school and the promotion of school spirit.

Requirements

Must be able to facilitate students.
Must be able to represent and express the views, concerns, and opinions of fellow students.
Must be able to communicate ideas for school improvement.
Must be able to act as a governing agent for student activities.
Must be able to assist students in creating weekly meeting agendas.
Must be able to manage financial records.
Must be able to create student body announcements.
Must be able to organize special events and projects.
Must be able to assist student council members in being fiscally responsible.
Must be able to manage a budget.
Must be able to organize fundraising events.
Must be able to organize special events and projects that lead to a positive school climate and school spirit.
Must attain a full understanding and working knowledge of the UMS Student Handbook.
Must provide leadership and direction to students.
Must attend and assist in the facilitation of all Student Council meetings after school.
Must give effort and support to UMS.
Must complete academic tasks given by teachers.
Must be a positive role model for others.
Must monitor the academic performance of student council members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.
Must encourage students to maintain a high academic standard.
Must be able to perform any and all additional duties as assigned by UMS Administration.

Responsibilities

Facilitate students in representing and expressing the views, concerns, and opinions of fellow students and communicating ideas for school improvement to the UMS School Improvement Team and other channels, such as PTSA and UMS Administration.
Act as a governing agent for student activities, which includes assisting students in creating weekly meeting agendas, managing financial records, creating student body announcements, and organizing special events and projects.
Assist student council members in being fiscally responsible, managing a budget, and organizing fundraising events.
Assist student council members in organizing special events and projects that lead to a positive school climate and school spirit, such as schoolwide dances, book fairs, spirit week, and others.
Attain a full understanding and working knowledge of the UMS Student Handbook.
Provide leadership and direction to students.
Attend and assist in the facilitation of all Student Council meetings after school.
Give effort and support to UMS.
Complete academic tasks given by teachers.
Be a positive role model for others.
Monitor the academic performance of student council members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourages students to maintain a high academic standard.
Perform any and all additional duties as assigned by UMS Administration.
