This position provides comprehensive care to patients requiring ultrasound services in an organized and systematic manner according to departmental policy and standards. The Ultrasound Technologist follows appropriate protocol for ultrasound studies unless specified differently by the Radiologist and follows ultrasound protocols for biopsies and other Interventional procedures if required. The technologist assumes accountability for managing delivery of care and patient safety, produces quality diagnostic images for interpretation, and obtains and documents patient history and pertinent information. They communicate with the attending Radiologist and verify provider orders, ensure exam room cleanliness after each procedure, and adhere to infection control standards specific to patient care. This role prioritizes and organizes work assignments and adjusts priorities based on changing situations, prepares patients for procedures providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation and minimize anxiety, and has the ability to operate/modify equipment and technical factors as needed. The technologist ensures equipment is in acceptable condition by conducting routine quality control checks and follows department standards for reporting equipment malfunctions or problems. Other job duties as required and attendance at departmental meetings are also part of the role.
