About The Position

Riverside Smithfield Hospital, opening in early 2026, is a new, modern facility in Smithfield, Virginia, offering comprehensive medical services to the community. The hospital features an Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging Services, 38 Medical/Surgical beds, 12 ICU beds, and 4 Operating Rooms. This role is an opportunity to join a team shaping the future of healthcare in Smithfield by delivering compassionate, patient-centered care in a state-of-the-art environment. The Ultrasound Technologist in the acute care setting will perform a wide range of ultrasound exams, including general ultrasound, breast, OB/GYN, and others. Responsibilities include responding to patient questions, maintaining confidentiality, managing daily operations of the ultrasound lab, patient scheduling, equipment maintenance, reporting equipment failures, and quality assessment. The technologist must uphold high medical ethics and pursue continuous learning. This is an as-needed position with call rotation and weekend shifts.

Requirements

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) RDMS(OB, AB, Breast, or NIV) Upon Hire(Required)
  • Radiologic Technologists - The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Sonography (S) Upon Hire(Required)
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) RVT or RDCS Upon Hire(Required)
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire(Required)

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Uses imaging equipment and soundwaves to form images for diagnosis.
  • Produces quality images following appropriate protocols and procedures.
  • Provides and maintains clinical documentation per scope of practice.
  • Educates patients/families regarding the procedure to be performed.
  • Explains the procedure and independently performs ultrasound exams on patients following established protocols.
  • Evaluates images for quality.
  • Interprets what image is captured.
  • Presents images and preliminary findings to the physician.
  • Maintains the ultrasound equipment and sterilizes the room.
  • Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements.
  • Troubleshoots and ensures equipment functionality.
  • Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and material to ensure non-interruption of services.
  • Understands and adheres to all applicable regulatory and accrediting standards.
  • Follows RHS policies and procedures.
  • Reports variances.
