About The Position

Riverside Smithfield Hospital, opening in early 2026, aims to provide high-quality healthcare to Isle of Wight County residents. This new hospital, located on a 27-acre campus, features modern facilities and comprehensive medical services. The 200,000-square-foot, three-story hospital includes an Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging Services, 38 Medical/Surgical beds, 12 ICU beds, and 4 Operating Rooms. Requirements

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) RDMS(OB, AB, Breast, or NIV) Upon Hire(Required)
  • Radiologic Technologists - The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Sonography (S) Upon Hire(Required)
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) RVT or RDCS Upon Hire(Required)
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) - Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) CCI (RCS, RCIS, or RVS) Upon Hire(Required)
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire(Required)

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of ultrasound exams, including general ultrasound, breast, OB/GYN, and other ultrasound exams on incoming patients.
  • Respond to patient questions and concerns regarding exam procedures and processes, while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
  • Manage daily operations of the ultrasound lab, patient schedule, and equipment maintenance.
  • Report equipment failures.
  • Conduct quality assessment (QA).
  • Maintain a high standard of medical ethics and pursue lifelong learning to increase understanding of the field, diseases, and new procedures.
  • Use imaging equipment and soundwaves to form images for diagnosis.
  • Produce quality images following appropriate protocols and procedures.
  • Provide and maintain clinical documentation per scope of practice.
  • Educate patients/families regarding the procedure to be performed.
  • Explain the procedure and independently perform ultrasound exams on patients following established protocols.
  • Evaluate images for quality and interpret what image is captured.
  • Present images and preliminary findings to the physician.
  • Maintain the ultrasound equipment and sterilize the room.
  • Perform and evaluate equipment quality control measurements.
  • Troubleshoot and ensure equipment functionality.
  • Monitor and maintain an adequate inventory of supplies and materials to ensure non-interruption of services.
  • Understand and adhere to all applicable regulatory and accrediting standards.
  • Follow RHS policies and procedures.
  • Report variances.
