About The Position

The UG Mobile Maintenance Mechanic (Tech III - V) plays a critical role in ensuring the continuous and efficient operation of underground mobile equipment used in mining and heavy industrial environments. This position involves performing advanced mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair tasks on a variety of mobile machinery to minimize downtime and maximize productivity. The mechanic will work closely with maintenance teams and operations personnel to identify equipment issues, implement corrective actions, and conduct preventive maintenance. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and adherence to company and regulatory standards. Ultimately, the mechanic’s expertise directly contributes to the safe and reliable functioning of essential mobile equipment underground, supporting overall operational success.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mobile equipment maintenance, preferably in underground mining or heavy industrial settings.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and repair complex mechanical systems on mobile equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate mobile equipment safely.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and best practices related to underground maintenance work.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical certification or diploma in diesel mechanics, heavy equipment maintenance, or a related field.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Familiarity with hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems on mobile equipment.
  • Previous experience working in a unionized environment.
  • First aid and emergency response training.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on underground mobile equipment including loaders, trucks, and drills.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to identify potential mechanical issues before they lead to equipment failure.
  • Collaborate with maintenance supervisors and operators to prioritize repair work and ensure timely resolution of equipment problems.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage in compliance with company policies.
  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols and regulatory requirements to maintain a safe working environment underground.
