About The Position

The UG Mine Electrician plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of underground mining electrical systems. This position involves installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical equipment and infrastructure in challenging underground environments. The successful candidate will contribute to minimizing downtime and enhancing operational productivity by ensuring all electrical systems comply with safety standards and regulations. Collaboration with mining engineers, safety personnel, and other trades is essential to support continuous mining operations. Ultimately, this role is vital to maintaining a safe working environment and supporting the overall success of mining activities underground.

Requirements

  • Valid electrician license or certification recognized in the United States.
  • Proven experience working as an electrician in underground mining or a similarly hazardous environment.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, circuits, and components used in mining operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Physical ability to work in confined spaces and underground conditions safely.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in mine safety and health administration (MSHA) or equivalent mining safety training.
  • Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and automated mining equipment.
  • Additional training in hazardous location electrical installations (e.g., Class I, Division 1 or 2).
  • First aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance software and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures in underground mining operations.
  • Diagnose electrical issues using specialized tools and equipment, and implement effective solutions promptly.
  • Ensure all electrical work complies with federal, state, and local safety regulations and mining industry standards.
  • Collaborate with mining engineers and safety teams to plan and execute electrical projects and maintenance schedules.
  • Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance to reduce equipment failures and enhance system reliability.
  • Maintain accurate records of electrical maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
  • Respond to emergency electrical failures and provide timely repairs to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Participate in safety meetings and contribute to continuous improvement of safety protocols related to electrical systems.
