About The Position

The Production Support Waste Specialist assists the Production Support Manager in the technical execution and integration of daily production work activities. Directly supports front line supervisors and production managers in work planning, scheduling, and integration of activities that impact field execution and production readiness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience. OR Master’s degree: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience. OR PhD.
  • Twelve or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting.
  • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., High School diploma and 3 years nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).
  • Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
  • Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP).
  • If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709.

  • A working knowledge of CNS Technical Services requirements and waste acceptance criteria is desired.
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing facilities and processes is also desired.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and coordinate compliance efforts concerning characterization, segregation, minimization, accumulation, and disposal of RCRA, TSCA, mixed, general, and radiological wastes.
  • Identify and implement Lean/5S and Productivity improvements to processes and operations practices and provides floor leadership in the implementation of approved initiatives.
  • Interact with the appropriate organizations to maintain awareness of, and exert influence on, regulatory as well as plant standards changes concerning waste accumulation, disposal, and minimization.
  • Assist the site environmental compliance organization in evaluating, interpreting, and implementing programmatic changes, which affect production operations.
  • Monitor compliance with Federal, State, local, and plant environmental and waste minimization requirements, and report non-compliances.
  • Serve as environmental, waste management and waste minimization SME for the department.
  • Develop written organizational procedures to implement compliance with regulations, orders, and site procedures.
  • Serving as a relief supervisor as requested.
  • Review all operational procedures to ensure that pertinent environmental and waste management issues are addressed.
  • Ensure that waste generated is adequately characterized, documented, segregated, packaged, labeled, and stored in accordance with approved procedures and environmental regulations.
  • Conducts self-assessments, evaluates results, and documents and communicates results.
  • Provide technical support on environmental compliance issues.
  • Performing other duties as assigned to provide leadership in maintaining safe working conditions, proactively preventing injuries, contaminations and exposures and supporting the safe, efficient and effective flow of work within the production area.
