About The Position

Sylvan Learning Center is seeking part-time tutors for its West Covina learning center. Tutors teach students from Pre-K through high school, helping them build confidence, independence, and lasting skills. The center is seeking experienced tutors in math (up to Algebra 2 or beyond), reading and writing (up to 12th grade), and test preparation, with training provided for test prep. Instructors teach and build rapport with students; lesson plans are not required. On-the-job training and learning opportunities can support career development and advancement.

Requirements

• Experienced tutor with experience in math up to Algebra 2 or beyond, reading and writing up to 12th grade, or test preparation (training provided for test prep).
• A minimum of one or two years of teaching experience is preferred.
• A four-year degree or equivalent is preferred but not required.
• State or provincial teaching credentials, current or expired, are preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension is preferred for reading teachers.

Responsibilities

• Teach students and build rapport with them.

• Communicate student needs to the center director.
• Inspire and develop a rapport with students.
• Establish a fun learning environment.
• Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching and Sylvan.
