Training Facility - Turf & Grounds Manager
About The Position
The Turf & Grounds Manager oversees upkeep of four natural-grass fields and the surrounding grounds at the Orlando Health Training Grounds at Osceola Heritage Park. The role manages facility operations and staff, supports field rentals and events, and works with internal teams and soccer operations staff to maintain high-quality playing surfaces and grounds. The position reports to the Director of Turf & Grounds and is full-time, salaried, and exempt. The manager creates the annual facility operating budget with the Director of Turf & Grounds, manages day-to-day costs, oversees turf fertility and pest-control programs, and researches and procures equipment and supplies. The role may also assist with events at Inter&Co Stadium. Work may take place outdoors and involves physical labor in varied weather conditions, flexible hours, and work on nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Turf Grass Science, Horticulture, or a related field is preferred.
- Five to seven years of grounds-maintenance-related work experience in soccer; at least three years of leadership experience is preferred.
- Possess or be able to obtain a Florida Commercial Pesticide Applicator License.
- Ability to operate turf-related equipment, such as tractors, mowers, aerifiers, and field paint machines.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and supervisory skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and adapt to change.
- Ability to resolve concerns expeditiously and independently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Able to obtain and maintain a SafeSport Certification.
- Able to pass a background check.
- Ability to walk and stand for short periods.
Nice To Haves
- Fluency in Spanish is desirable but not required.
- Experience hosting field events, including sporting events and concerts, using various field-protection systems is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Oversee maintenance of four natural-grass fields, including mowing, edging, fertilizing, aerating, top-dressing, over-seeding, re-sodding, and line striping.
- Create the annual facility operating budget with the Director of Turf & Grounds and manage day-to-day operations for cost effectiveness.
- Implement an effective fertility, fungicide, and pest-control program for Osceola Heritage Park.
- Lead research and procurement of equipment and supplies as needed.
- Work with the Senior Event Manager to ensure field conditions meet requirements for third-party events and venue field rentals.
- Build productive relationships within the organization and with employees, visitors, and staff.
- Maintain effective working relationships with MLS, MLS Next Pro, and MLS Next coaches and soccer operations staff.
- Maintain facility surroundings, including mowing, raking, mulching, weeding, edging, trimming, pruning, and installing plants.
- Assist with events at Inter&Co Stadium as needed.
- Manage full-time staff.
- Interview, hire, and train employees; appraise performance; and reward and discipline employees in conjunction with People & Culture.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
