About The Position

The Trucking Business Development Consultant (BDC) is a sales role focused on generating and closing new commercial insurance business within the trucking industry. This role works with mid-market trucking companies (approximately 50–400 units) and sells Property & Casualty insurance solutions, with opportunities to introduce employee benefits over time. This is a base plus commission position designed for motivated sales professionals who want to build a career in commercial insurance, develop consultative selling skills, and take ownership of their results. You’ll receive support, structure, and exposure to experienced transportation leaders while being responsible for driving new business through consistent prospecting and follow-up. If you enjoy outbound sales, learning how businesses operate, and growing your income through performance, this role offers a strong foundation and upward opportunity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 2–5 years of sales or business development experience in the trucking vertical
  • Experience using a CRM or sales tracking system (Salesforce preferred)
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Strong interest in sales, prospecting, and business development
  • Willingness to learn commercial insurance and transportation risks
  • Comfort making outbound calls and having business conversations
  • Organized approach to managing leads and follow-ups
  • Positive attitude, coachability, and resilience
  • Motivation to grow skills, income, and responsibility

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with tools like LinkedIn Sales Navigator, ZoomInfo, or similar platforms is helpful but not required
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for meetings or events

Responsibilities

  • Prospect mid-market trucking companies through phone, email, LinkedIn, events, and in-person meetings
  • Learn to identify insurance needs related to fleets, operations, and business risk
  • Schedule, lead, and advance sales conversations with prospective clients
  • Present insurance solutions clearly and professionally
  • Own deals from first contact through close
  • Keep Salesforce up to date with activity, notes, and pipeline progress
  • Organize and prioritize leads and opportunities in Salesforce
  • Learn how to forecast deals and manage longer sales cycles
  • Track outreach activity and adjust based on what works best
  • Apply feedback and best practices to improve close rates over time
  • Schedule and run discovery and follow-up meetings with prospects
  • Serve as the main point of contact throughout the sales process
  • Prepare professional, client-ready materials and proposals
  • Build trust through consistent communication and follow-through
