Truck Helper & Sorting Room Worker (7944)
About The Position
This position is responsible for receiving, sorting, pricing, and preparing donated items for display in the store. It involves determining the suitability and pricing of items based on established standards and assisting in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area. The role also includes assisting in picking up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck, lifting, carrying, and hauling donations, assisting the Truck Driver with navigation, and ensuring the accountability, security, and safety of donations in route. Additionally, the position requires assisting in maintaining the vehicle in proper working order.
Requirements
- Ability to meet attendance requirements.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
- Ability to read and follow a map and/or hand-written directions.
- Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects.
- Six months experience lifting and hauling heavy items such as appliances and furniture, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Valid State Driver's License
Responsibilities
- Receives, inspects and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brac, etc. according to the category and condition.
- Selects items suitable for store display and distributes them to appropriate areas for further sorting, pricing, or discarding items in accordance with established procedures.
- Tags items with specially coded tickets and/or prices in accordance with established procedures.
- Hangs clothes on hangers and places them on clothes racks.
- Prepares non-suitable clothes for the bailer.
- Lifts and carries items to the appropriate destination for further processing, storage, or displaying in store.
- Maintains warehouse area in a neat and orderly manner; cleans floors, tables, and work areas.
- Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route to pick up donated items.
- Assists in navigating drivers to destinations by reading a map and/or hand-written directions.
- Inspects donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures; explains policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted.
- Lifts, carries, and/or hauls donations into truck; packs items in truck in a manner that maximizes use of space, protects items from damage, and ensures safety.
- Prepares donation receipts for customers; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
- Maintains good relationship with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.
- Unloads donations from truck upon arrival at warehouse; distributes items to appropriate locations in the warehouse.
- Loads trucks of items to be taken to the dump.
- Delivers appliances and furniture purchased by customers.
- Performs routine maintenance of the truck; checks fluid levels on a regular basis; coordinates and may participate in repair work as needed.
