Truck Helper & Sorting Room Worker (7823)
About The Position
This position is responsible for assisting in picking up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck and lifting, carrying, and/or hauling donations into the truck and unloading them at the warehouse. The role also involves assisting the Truck Driver with navigation, ensuring the accountability, security, and safety of donations in transit, and helping maintain the vehicle. Additionally, the worker will receive, sort, price, and prepare donated items for store display, determining their suitability and pricing based on established standards, and assisting in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area.
Requirements
- Ability to determine the condition of items in accordance with established standards.
- Ability to follow instruction and work independently.
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers.
- Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects.
- No formal education AND Six months experience lifting and hauling heavy items such as appliances and furniture OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Responsibilities
- Assist in picking-up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck and lifting, carrying, and/or hauling donations into the truck and unloading the same at the warehouse.
- Assist in navigating for the Truck Driver.
- Ensures the accountability, security, and safety of the donations when in route.
- Assist in maintaining the vehicle in proper working order and in compliance with established standards.
- Receives, sorts, prices and prepares donated items for display in the store.
- Determines suitability and pricing of items based on established standards.
- Assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area.
- Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route in order to pick-up donated items.
- Assists in navigating driver to destinations by reading a map and/or hand-written directions.
- Inspects donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures.
- Explains policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted.
- Lifts, carries, and/or hauls donations into truck.
- Packs items in truck in a manner that maximizes use of space, protects items from damage, and ensures safety.
- Receives, inspects and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brac, etc. according to the category and condition.
- Selects items suitable for store display and distributes same to appropriate area for further sorting and/or pricing.
- Discards items in accordance with established procedures.
