About The Position

This position is responsible for driving Salvation Army trucks to scheduled routes for donation pick-ups and merchandise delivery to customers. The role involves operating the truck in compliance with Salvation Army standards and state driving regulations, lifting, carrying, loading, and unloading various donations. The employee will ensure the safety and security of the vehicle and contributions, and will also assist in the thrift store and warehouse with sorting, orderliness, and cleanliness.

Requirements

  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.
  • Ability to lift and carry moderate to heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.).
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, and stand for extended periods and on a frequent change basis.
  • High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • One year of experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid Driver's License

  • Experience working in a retail store preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Salvation Army trucks to scheduled route to pick up donations and deliver merchandise to customers.
  • Operate the truck in compliance with established Salvation Army standards and state driving regulations.
  • Lift, carry, load, and unload a variety of donations, including furniture, appliances, clothing, etc.
  • Ensure the safety, security, and accountability of the vehicle and contributions at all times.
  • Assist in performing work in the thrift store and warehouse.
  • Assist in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area.
  • Confer regularly with the warehouse supervisor to maintain awareness of scheduled pick-ups of donations according to the established policy.
  • Ensure items are picked up.
  • Assist driver in lifting and stacking donations in the truck and unloading the truck at the warehouse.
  • Receive, inspect, and sort donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, brick-a-brack, etc., according to category and condition.
  • Schedule and record donation pick-ups.
