About The Position

The Driver Tractor Trailer/System Operator (DSO) operates refueling and defueling trucks in support of aviation refueling objectives. The role requires at least two years of documented experience and qualification to perform fuel servicing using mobile fuel servicing trucks, truck-supplied pantographs and hose sets, and fixed direct fuel servicing systems, including hydrant and hot-pit systems. Before operating fuel servicing equipment without supervision, the DSO must pass base and flight-line familiarization and practical equipment and facility competency tests, be certified as qualified, and have their training record updated. The DSO must be familiar with safety regulations for aviation and ground fuel servicing around airfields and supported activities, and demonstrate practical knowledge of inspecting and maintaining fuel servicing equipment and systems, including grounding and bonding, truck inspections, refueling equipment inspections, and flight-line safety. The role may also involve entering basic information into the Fuels Manager Defense System (FMD) or maintaining dispatch logs. For hot-pit operations involving rotary- and fixed-wing aircraft, assigned DSOs must be qualified and capable of actuating the deadman control and fire-extinguishing equipment during fuel servicing. Hot-pit DSOs must complete training relevant to their assigned duties. The assigned deadman-control operator remains in control of all direct refueling operations. DSOs are not responsible for aircraft taxiing or positioning, checking for hot brakes, verifying dummy or practice ordnance safety, determining or signaling engine shutdown and restart procedures outside the pit, or serving as refueling coordinator, plane captain, or nozzle operator. Drivers must comply with applicable vehicle operating laws and licensing requirements for the duration of employment. They must hold a current, valid Alabama driver’s license and be licensed for the class of vehicle operated on public roads.
