About The Position

The Tribal Response Program/Brownfields Specialist is responsible for protecting the Tribe’s natural resources and ensuring compliance with tribal and federal environmental regulations. This position conducts inspections, site assessments, and surveys of potentially hazardous or abandoned sites, including Brownfields properties. The Specialist oversees program operations, manages budgets, coordinates with contractors, and ensures quality assurance and reporting requirements are met.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Subject to pre-employment, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing.
  • Tribal, State, and Federal background investigation and MVR screening required.

  • Associate’s Degree in Environmental Science or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct surveys, inspections, and assessments of tribal lands to identify and evaluate hazardous, abandoned, or unauthorized sites.
  • Oversee the Brownfields program, ensuring compliance with federal regulations, quality assurance standards, and reporting requirements.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures, assessment documentation, and corrective action plans.
  • Prepare reports and present findings to the Tribal Environmental Quality Commission, Tribal Council, and EPA Region 8.
  • Manage program budgets, estimate project costs, and coordinate contractors to complete environmental tasks efficiently.
  • Make independent field determinations regarding environmental, human health, and safety risks, and recommend interventions.
  • Maintain communication and collaboration with tribal, local, state, and federal agencies, as well as community stakeholders, to promote environmental compliance and stewardship.
