About The Position

This position falls under the Tribal Police Department for the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma. The Tribal Emergency 911 Dispatcher for the Kickapoo Tribal Police Department (KTOPD) is responsible for receiving, prioritizing, and processing emergency and non-emergency calls for Tribal lands, Tribal members, and partner agencies. Dispatchers play an essential role in supporting the safety and well-being of residents, employees, and visitors within the jurisdiction of the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma. This position requires the ability to remain calm under pressure, multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment, and communicate clearly and professionally with callers, officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and other agencies. Dispatchers support KTOPD’s mission of community-oriented policing, cultural awareness, and respectful service to Tribal members. This position will be housed at the Lincoln County 911 Center in Chandler, Oklahoma.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent decision-making skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency with the ability to learn specialized dispatch and law-enforcement software.
  • Ability to function as part of a cohesive team within the Communications Division.
  • Ability to remain calm, focused, and emotionally balanced during emergencies.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and maintain focus in a structured dispatch environment.
  • Must work effectively in a communications center with multiple screens, audio feeds, and simultaneous information sources.
  • Must meet all KTOPD hiring requirements, including background check, drug screening, and any required certifications or training courses.
  • Must have the ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Must possess a valid Oklahoma driver’s license.
  • Must be able to demonstrate their US work authorization during the employment verification process
  • Complete the Indian Police Academy and/or CLEET Basic Officer Certification
  • Required to pass a criminal background investigation and drug/alcohol test

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the Kickapoo language is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, evaluate, and accurately process both emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
  • Obtain essential details from callers, including the nature of the incident, location, threats, and safety concerns.
  • Provide clear and calm instructions to callers during emergency situations, including crisis situations that may involve Tribal members, elders, or vulnerable persons.
  • Relay critical information promptly to KTOPD officers and appropriate fire/EMS responders.
  • Monitor and operate multiple radio channels, ensuring timely communication with on-duty field units.
  • Coordinate with neighboring municipal, county, state, and Tribal agencies as required for multi-jurisdictional incidents or mutual-aid requests.
  • Track unit status, officer safety, call progression, and resource allocation in real time.
  • Enter and maintain accurate call details using computer-aided dispatch (CAD) and related communication systems.
  • Update, retrieve, and manage information in law-enforcement databases as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to Tribal policies, privacy regulations, and departmental standards.
  • Uphold cultural sensitivity and demonstrate respect toward Tribal members, elders, and community partners.
  • Maintain composure, professionalism, and accuracy in high-stress and rapidly evolving situations.
  • Support KTOPD’s commitment to public safety, transparency, and service-oriented policing.
