About The Position

Cumberland County government seeks candidates to fill multiple positions as 911 Emergency Dispatchers in it's Windham, Maine communications center. Selected candidates will perform the essential role of assisting the public by taking both emergency and non‐emergency calls for service and dispatching information to the proper responding fire departments, emergency medical services or law enforcement agencies in Cumberland County. This position is full-time with a full benefits package. Base wage starts at $26.68 per hour for candidates with no experience and/or no academy certification. Academy Certified Communications Officers (ACCO) are eligible for recognition of up to ten years of service, or a base wage of up to $32.21 per hour. Shift differentials and stipends for education, designated task assignments, and military service are available to otherwise qualified hires. This range reflects the County’s good-faith estimate of pay for this position at the time of posting. Starting pay is determined based on qualifications and experience in alignment with the collective bargaining agreement. Please note, applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Requirements

  • Hold a High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Possess computer proficiency to include Microsoft Office/Word.
  • Possess excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and maintain control in stressful situations.
  • Be, or have the ability to become, knowledgeable of county and town geographic layouts.
  • Must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • Academy Certified Communications Officers (ACCO) are eligible for recognition of up to ten years of service.

Responsibilities

  • Take both emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
  • Dispatch information to the proper responding fire departments, emergency medical services or law enforcement agencies in Cumberland County.
  • Complete the terminal operator control course.
  • Complete the CPR and Emergency Medical Dispatching Course within one year of employment.
  • Successfully complete a Criticall exam.
