If you possess a strong work ethic and want to work as a trial attorney for our California office, this may be the opportunity for you! This position requires a California bar license in good standing and a minimum of a JD from an ABA approved law school. A minimum of 10+ years of civil defense litigation experience is required, preferably in silicosis, silica, asbestos, mass tort, toxic tort and/or insurance defense litigation. Trial experience is required, specifically 1st chair experience. Previous experience should include managing up to 30 cases at once, taking and defending depositions, appearance in court, motion and discovery drafting. Experience mentoring junior Associates is a plus. Computer skills include basic knowledge of computer operation, internet software, spreadsheet software and word processing software; the use of Microsoft products is preferred. The candidate must have the ability to type and operate office equipment. Self-motivation and a self-starter attitude are essential, along with the ability to work independently and possess strong client communication skills. Oral communication skills should include speaking clearly and persuasively, listening and getting clarification, responding well to questions, and participating in meetings when required. Written communication skills should include writing clearly and informatively, editing work for spelling and grammar, varying writing style to meet needs, presenting numerical data effectively, and the ability to read and interpret written information. The ideal candidate will have the temperament to work with little supervision, prioritize and anticipate work needs, and work well under occasional periods of pressure and short deadlines. Ethical conduct is paramount, including keeping client and firm information confidential at all times and understanding and implementing general rules of ethical behavior applicable to lawyers.
