About The Position

The Traveling Superintendent leads execution on complex, fast-track, or mission-critical projects with elevated risk and coordination demands. This role independently manages sequencing, manpower strategies, commissioning, and turnover while mentoring other field leaders and maintaining strong client confidence. Success is measured by reliable delivery under pressure and the development of capable field leadership.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 10+ years of commercial/general construction experience, including 5 years in a supervisory capacity
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing

  • Previous experience working in multiple jurisdictions or jobsite travel roles

Responsibilities

  • Execute and adapt the plan for complex or mission-critical projects, managing constraints and sequencing risk
  • Orchestrate labor and subcontractors across complex interfaces to maintain workflow and resolve conflicts.
  • Maintain constant awareness in complex environments, identifying risks before they impact execution.
  • Resolve complex, high-risk issues affecting safety, schedule, or quality.
  • Schedules and oversees inspections as required by local and state codes and arranges final inspections.
  • Design sequencing strategies for complex interfaces to protect critical path activities.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Operations, Operations Manager, and foremen to maintain project momentum.
  • Oversees punch list completion and project closeout efforts.
  • Generates pre-construction material and tool lists and develops lookahead schedules for foremen.
  • Directly supervises assigned field personnel and trade contractors to ensure quality, timeline, and budget expectations are met.
  • Assists in the recruitment, onboarding, and training of field employees; promotes a safe and growth-oriented work environment.
  • Evaluates staff performance, coaches team members, and supports ongoing employee development.
  • Conducts timely and comprehensive performance evaluations.
  • Operates company vehicles and equipment in compliance with safety protocols and traffic laws.
  • Submits weekly workforce schedules for field and temp labor to support operations planning.
  • Maintains and updates staffing forecasts to support proactive workforce planning.
  • Participates in weekly operations meetings and project lifecycle touchpoints (kickoff, updates, closeout).
  • Leads on-site commissioning activities and supports successful turnover.
  • Supports estimating efforts, site surveys, and customer walk-throughs as needed.
  • Ensure quality requirements are met on complex or mission-critical projects, addressing elevated risk and tolerance constraints.
  • Oversee inspections for complex systems and interfaces, ensuring issues are resolved without impacting schedule.
  • Drive punch list completion for complex or fast-track projects while protecting turnover milestones.
  • Lead commissioning and turnover efforts for complex systems and mission-critical projects.
  • Anticipate quality risks associated with complex sequencing, systems, or tolerances and drive corrective action.
  • Lead field teams on complex or mission-critical projects, aligning multiple leaders toward shared outcomes.
  • Reinforce accountability under complex, high-pressure conditions while maintaining team performance.
  • Actively develop future superintendents through mentoring, feedback, and increased responsibility.
  • Lead performance discussions and development planning for superintendent-level staff.
  • Sustain strong culture during periods of complexity, pressure, or rapid change.
  • Communicate complex field conditions, risks, and mitigation plans clearly to clients and internal leadership.
  • Lead coordination with clients, inspectors, and partners on complex or mission-critical activities.
  • Anticipate and manage client impacts associated with complex sequencing, outages, or critical milestones.
  • Lead client-facing field meetings and critical milestone reviews.
  • Build credibility and trust with clients through effective leadership under pressure.
  • Ensure field documentation reflects complex work activities, risks, and constraints accurately and consistently.
  • Provide forward-looking reporting on manpower, progress, and execution risks for complex projects.
  • Ensure field systems capture meaningful data for decision-making on complex projects.
  • Ensure documentation supports cost visibility, schedule impact, and change justification.
  • Identify opportunities to improve documentation practices under complex conditions.
